Bridges
If you’re missing one or more teeth or have a gap in between teeth, a dental bridge may be the solution for you. A bridge is connected to your existing teeth and is used to seal the gap.
Composed of materials such as gold, metal, alloys or porcelain, a dental bridge is strong, durable, and built to last many years.
- First, an abutment (a connector), where the bridge will be placed, is created with the patient’s existing teeth. These teeth are reworked to act as a stable base for the bridge.
- Once the abutments are formed, a mold is taken of the area.
- The mold is sent to a dental lab where custom made bridge is built to form fit the patient in a way that feels as close to their natural teeth as possible.
- While waiting for your permanent bridge, a temporary bridge will be placed in your mouth to protect the abutments and vulnerable gum areas.
Healing…
A new bridge may take some time to feel like your natural teeth. It is recommended that you eat soft foods for a few days following the bridge placement, and when comfortable transition to your regular habits. Our team will go over all of this pre and post treatment information during your visit.
Keep in mind that a missing tooth or teeth can cause structural shifts to the mouth and jaw which may result in difficulty eating or speaking normally.
We recommend coming in for a consultation so we can discuss your case specifically and put together a few options for you.
Common Questions
If you have a missing tooth, the empty space can cause your other teeth to shift over time. A dental bridge is used to fill the empty space and preserve the structure of your teeth and smile.
Most dental brindles will last between 10 and 15 years, but it ultimately depends on the amount of care and the level of hygiene practiced.
